Overview

Our research is mainly focused on cognitive deficits in brain-damaged patients, with a specific interest in language and verbal short-term memory and their possible rehabilitation. We approach these topics by means of behavioral and neurophysiological (TMS, tDCS) measures and we try to develop new testing and treatment strategies. Another line of research is the deficit in social cognition in Parkinson’s disease.

Research directions

  • Anosognosia in aphasia: which are the neural correlates of anosognosia in aphasia, are there dissociations (i.e., anosognosia for production deficits vs. comprehension deficits), how does it impact on rehabilitation?
  • Recovery in aphasia: Which are the neural mechanisms involved in recovery? Is it possible to increase recovery by intensive computerized treatments?
  • Verbal STM: how deficits in verbal STM affect sentence comprehension
  • Social cognition deficits in  Parkinson’s Disease: is there a specific impairment in recognizing emotions and which level of processing is impaired?
