The Center for Neurocognitive Rehabilitation (CeRiN) operates through an agreement between the University of Trento and the local Provincial Healthcare Services Agency (APSS). Clinical services are provided on an outpatient basis and are intended for adult patients with post-acute or chronic neurocognitive disorders resulting from various neurological conditions. The conditions most frequently treated at CeRiN include the outcomes of cerebrovascular or post-traumatic events, degenerative dementias (including parkinsonism), and the consequences of neoplastic and inflammatory diseases. Clinical services offered at CeRiN include neurological consultations, neuropsychological assessments, rehabilitation treatments, and the evaluation of treatment efficacy upon completion. The rehabilitation treatments, provided both individually and in groups, include:
- Cognitive Rehabilitation: Treatment of disorders affecting attention, memory, executive functions, spatial cognition, and hemianopsia.
- Speech Therapy: Prevention and treatment of articulation, voice, language, and communication disorders resulting from neurological damage.
- Physiotherapy for motor deficits: Functional re-education of motor disabilities resulting from damage to the central nervous system.
Services are provided according to the procedures of the National Health System, within the framework of agreements between APSS and the University of Trento. Trento Province Residents: To access CeRiN, patients must have a valid referral (impegnativa) issued by a specialist neurologist, physiatrist, or hospital geriatrician from the Trento Provincial Healthcare Services Agency. Referrals may also be issued by a medical director at the Center for Cognitive Disorders and Dementia (CDCD) of the Trento APSS. Patients are required to contribute to the cost (co-payment/ticket) unless exempt. Out-of-Province Residents: Patients may access services with a referral from their General Practitioner (GP). With the exception of the neurological consultation (for which non-exempt patients must pay the healthcare ticket), all other services - including neuropsychological evaluations and rehabilitation treatments - are to be paid for by the user.
